All Sabahar products are hand made. Every part of the process is done by hand. We spin the cotton into thread on drop spindles, while we have introduced spinning wheels to spin our Eri silk into thread. We dye the thread in small batches using environmentally friendly dyes. We weave the fabric on traditional hand looms and make the fringes using a twist technique that has been practiced for centuries.
Our artisans work in their homes and at our workshop using Ethiopian cotton, silk, linen and wool. More than twenty sets of hands touch each product we sell. Such intensive production practices enable us to create and sustain significant employment for artisans who may otherwise leave their trade to find more reliable work.
Sabahar uses these ancient skills to produce modern designed textiles for the global market.
