A beautiful gift.... ቆንጆ ስጦታ (konjo sitota)
Share
Without knowing how classic his design was, one of our highly skilled weavers, Melkamu, produced this pinwheel pattern on his loom as a surprise 'gift' for Kathy. It was transformed into a throw blanket. It was, and remains, one of her favorite Sabahar products of all time. In honor of his kindness, we named the throw Sitota - meaning gift in Amharic (and konjo means beautiful).
Using a 4 harness loom, striped warp threads in black and white, and precise picking of threads for the weft, the pinwheel image emerges on the loom like a story unfolding.
Not only is the Sitota throw made with an internationally recognized weaving design, but it is also a highly versatile product. The dense, 100% cotton weaving structure means it is warm but at the same time lets air pass through to not be too hot. It is easily washable, crunchable and great for travel.
The hand stitching that connects the 2 panels displays the lovely hand work done by Ethiopian women.
We hope you enjoy this gift... to yourself or to others... as much as Kathy does :)
