Our guiding mission is to put people and planet first. Guided by the principles of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), we put ethical practices at the heart of everything we do.
Here are a few ways we do this:
For 20 years, we’ve created meaningful employment for hundreds of artisans in Ethiopia. We use technology to enhance efficiency without replacing our craftspeople. We have conducted our own "living wage survey" in order to understand the salary a person needs to cover their daily costs. We ensure all employees earn more than that. Employees also benefit from health coverage, training, paid leave, and interest-free loans.
We only use natural fibers and nearly all are from Ethiopia. We use internationally certified, environmentally-friendly textile dyes and have established a water treatment process to recycle waste water.
In addition, we strive to ensure that the cultural heritage of hand weaving and spinning in Ethiopia not only provides sustainable employment but also provides opportunities for artisans to share their creativity and skills with the world.
As participants in the 17th International WFTO summit in Cape Town this September, we were reminded that creating an inclusive and fair global economy is a huge challenge, and can only be realized if we work together.
