Thank you so much. The items always arrive promptly and in great condition. Sabahar is doing such important work preserving tradition while fully integrated into the online ordering system. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to wear and gift these items.
Multi-use items made by skilled hands. The golden cotton towel/wrap is sunshine anytime anywhere! Please join me in supporting the Sabahar artisans and team.
I could not be more pleased with my purchase from Sabahar. The cotton napkins I purchased are exactly as described and shown. I highly recommend this company and their products.
I don’t know much about making this stuff, but the quality and workmanship is is obvious.
Me and my family were looking for a place to buy a traditional yet professional wear/textile yesterday for my family members going back to the US. We wanted something they can wear on various occasions... we're very glad to have found sabahar because it's amazing how we found what we are looking, how we pictured it, in terms of style and aesthetics.
In addition, to this we were given a tour of the work shop in the next compound by Ms. Wintana and I want to say I'm truly amazed at how everything is made... even tough it was well past working hours Ms. Wintana went greatly in-depth on how everything was made with patience, she explained to us how sabahar is making an impact on the handmade artisan craft that was dying slowly and how sabahar is the first members of world fare trade org in Ethiopia in which sabahar treats workers well, pay fair prices, and protect the environment while doing that. Jaw dropping story telling and enjoyable experience I fully recommend going to the workshop.
All in all great experience absolutely recommend it.
The products you find here are sold all over the world. But you'll have a better selection and much better prices at this store, which is next door to their factory. Take the tour if you have time--and ask for Wintana, who was exceptional--and a joy.
We keep giving Sabahar towels to folks as gifts, and everyone has been thrilled to get them...even the people who are very difficult to buy for. It's come to the point that we keep a set around just in case we need a present on short notice.
I love the design of the Terara tea towels. I also love that they do not have fringes! They are practical but also beautiful. Everyone needs one of these in their home!
Quality local artisan weaving products. Love our new recycled sari silk table runner (inspired by the colours of Harar). A must shopping trip...also highly recommend arranging a tour of the workshop...provides understanding of the tremendous effort & collaboration that is embedded in each piece.
We've been in the shop several times and appreciate very much the quality and design of the products as well as the uniqueness.
But after taking the time to visit the workshop, we appreciate it even more! The visit is SO worthy! Not only to better know Sabahar work and philosophy, but also to immerse yourself in Ethiopia traditional and ancient handcraft of weaving, which is an intrinsic part of the ethiopian culture.
Thanks to the amazing team (family) of Sabahar!
I would highly recommend a visit of the Sabahar workshop.
The location itself is a wonderful and peaceful place full of trees and flowers which is nowadays rarely found in Addis Abeba. We got a great overview about the story of Sabahar and of each production step during our guided tour. We were able to ask many questions and it was also possible to try hand spinning and weaving. The best thing during the tour is that you meet a lot of people who are working for Sabahar. Through this you are able to feel the harmonic and joyful work atmosphere. Everyone we met, seemed to be very relaxed and in a good mood as well as highly motivated. It was a pleasure for us to experienced that.
Sabahar is the best example why it is worth to support fair trade organizations which offer the local community a good income and good labor conditions and therefore create stability and saftey for a lot of families. It was our first workshop tour but we buy Sabahar textiles since 2023. The textiles' quality is always very high. We bought blankets, towels, napkins, cushions, table cloths, scarves, cloths and use them nearly every day. The textiles are made very sustainably and look still complety new eventhough we wash them regulary in the washing machine. Supporting Sabahar and buying the textiles is therefore a benefit for everyone.
Thanks Sabahar :)
An oasis in Addis Ababa. Sabahar produces the most beautiful textiles in a very good quality. Most processes are carried out on site, but Sabahar ensures that the entire production is sustainable in an ecological as well as social sense. A tribute to good craftmansship. Everyone should visit and be reminded about the effort that goes into producing textile products that most takes for given. Show up and get a guided tour through all steps: spinning, dying, weaving, quality control and more you don't even think about. (I think there is a lunch break around noon, so check this if you plan to come around noon).
I visited Sabahar March 5 with an OAT group of American travelers. we had a wonderful 3 hours.
Our Sabahar guide was Wintans who explains the evolution and functioning of the spinning, dying, weaving, finishing and edging of a vast array of cotton linen and silk fabrics.
they've been a cooperative here for the last 25 years or so designing their new patterns guided by master weavers. Storks float over the gardens and workshops.
I of course am now challenged to close my luggage, but there were so many good deals here.
A lovely day with lovely people and awesome textiles.
