Unique Excellence

The products you find here are sold all over the world. But you'll have a better selection and much better prices at this store, which is next door to their factory. Take the tour if you have time--and ask for Wintana, who was exceptional--and a joy.

Really excellent gift.

We keep giving Sabahar towels to folks as gifts, and everyone has been thrilled to get them...even the people who are very difficult to buy for. It's come to the point that we keep a set around just in case we need a present on short notice.

Terrific.

Beautiful tea towel

I love the design of the Terara tea towels. I also love that they do not have fringes! They are practical but also beautiful. Everyone needs one of these in their home!

Quality local artisan weaving products. Love our new recycled sari silk table runner (inspired by the colours of Harar). A must shopping trip...also highly recommend arranging a tour of the workshop...provides understanding of the tremendous effort & collaboration that is embedded in each piece.

We've been in the shop several times and appreciate very much the quality and design of the products as well as the uniqueness.
But after taking the time to visit the workshop, we appreciate it even more! The visit is SO worthy! Not only to better know Sabahar work and philosophy, but also to immerse yourself in Ethiopia traditional and ancient handcraft of weaving, which is an intrinsic part of the ethiopian culture.
Thanks to the amazing team (family) of Sabahar!

I would highly recommend a visit of the Sabahar workshop.
The location itself is a wonderful and peaceful place full of trees and flowers which is nowadays rarely found in Addis Abeba. We got a great overview about the story of Sabahar and of each production step during our guided tour. We were able to ask many questions and it was also possible to try hand spinning and weaving. The best thing during the tour is that you meet a lot of people who are working for Sabahar. Through this you are able to feel the harmonic and joyful work atmosphere. Everyone we met, seemed to be very relaxed and in a good mood as well as highly motivated. It was a pleasure for us to experienced that.
Sabahar is the best example why it is worth to support fair trade organizations which offer the local community a good income and good labor conditions and therefore create stability and saftey for a lot of families. It was our first workshop tour but we buy Sabahar textiles since 2023. The textiles' quality is always very high. We bought blankets, towels, napkins, cushions, table cloths, scarves, cloths and use them nearly every day. The textiles are made very sustainably and look still complety new eventhough we wash them regulary in the washing machine. Supporting Sabahar and buying the textiles is therefore a benefit for everyone.
Thanks Sabahar :)

An oasis in Addis Ababa. Sabahar produces the most beautiful textiles in a very good quality. Most processes are carried out on site, but Sabahar ensures that the entire production is sustainable in an ecological as well as social sense. A tribute to good craftmansship. Everyone should visit and be reminded about the effort that goes into producing textile products that most takes for given. Show up and get a guided tour through all steps: spinning, dying, weaving, quality control and more you don't even think about. (I think there is a lunch break around noon, so check this if you plan to come around noon).

I visited Sabahar March 5 with an OAT group of American travelers. we had a wonderful 3 hours.
Our Sabahar guide was Wintans who explains the evolution and functioning of the spinning, dying, weaving, finishing and edging of a vast array of cotton linen and silk fabrics.
they've been a cooperative here for the last 25 years or so designing their new patterns guided by master weavers. Storks float over the gardens and workshops.
I of course am now challenged to close my luggage, but there were so many good deals here.
A lovely day with lovely people and awesome textiles.

Sabahar offers a wonderful range of beautiful handmade textiles that are sure to warm your heart. My favorites are the scarves and blankets; they are not only lovely but also make perfect gifts for loved ones or a special treat for yourself.
In the workshop (it's the Google Maps pin), you can learn more about the production process. The shop is around the corner where you can take the finished products home. Additionally, there is a cozy corner featuring Afar products in the shop. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
This is a place that should not be missed when visiting Addis.

Sabahar has beautifully crafted textiles, in stunning colors, a variety of patterns and very high quality handiwork. We visited twice during our 3 week trip to Addis Ababa (as well as seeing their products at multiple markets) because we couldn't get enough of their towels, throws, scarves and blankets. We were fortunate to have a tour of the production facility when we visited, where we were warmly welcomed with fresh bread and got to see the silk caterpillars as well as meet all the talented craftspeople behind the products. Highly recommend visiting the shop and supporting this fair trade business! Their selection was truly unique from other local vendors.

A wonderful place. They gave us a really interesting tour of the production (handmade) and was lucky even able to see the caterpillars. Very beautiful and high-quality products. Absolutely recommended!

I love Sabahar's work. I have bought scarves, baby blankets, throw towels, beach towels- you name it!
Much more pricier than other traditional creators but such great quality it's well worth the price!

It is 100% silk, handmade, and from Ethiopia. My sister owns more than 40 different scarves from SabaHar, and she continues to buy because of the quality.
