This beautiful, handwoven, Ethiopian cotton table runner is a visual representation of climate change over the past 200 years. The coldest temperatures are shown in blue, while the hottest temperatures are shown in red. They communicate trends of changing temperatures- with the darkest blue and the darkest red representing temperature extremes. We have put tabs showing the dates in history on the back of the runner.
The global climate warming stripes are the creation of two climate scientists from the University of Reading, Ellie Highwood and Edward Hawkins and they represent the average rise in temperature for a single year between 1850 to 2020.
We hope this runner initiates conversations about the rising temperature of our planet.

Behind the Weave: How it's Made?

What makes Sabahar kitchen and dining products different?
Sabahar kitchen and dining pieces are crafted exclusively from natural fibres such as hand-spun cotton and Ethiopian silk. The slow, hand-spinning process gives each napkin, placemat, and runner a distinctive texture and feel that can’t be replicated by machines. Whether used daily or saved for special occasions, these unique pieces are woven to last.
How are they made?
Each textile is dyed, spun, and woven by hand in Addis Ababa using traditional Ethiopian looms and age-old techniques. Depending on the design, artisans blend hand-spun cotton, Ethiopian silk, or recycled threads. The result: fabrics that last, feel softer with every use, and tell a beautiful story of craftsmanship.
Who makes them?
Sabahar is a fair-trade, women-owned business that has been operating for over 20 years. We provide fair wages, safe working conditions, and long-term employment to over 100 artisans in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Why it matters?
Choosing Sabahar means supporting ancient crafts and the people who keep it alive. Our textiles are made from 100% Ethiopian cotton, naturally breathable and biodegradable. Each towel carries the story of the hands that made it and the tradition it helps sustain - a small choice that makes a real difference.

Love this concept and the quality of the table runner - just beautiful!
Lovely table runner, good quality, beautiful colors. I am very happy I purchased it. I actually am a weaver myself, so I am extra happy with the quality.
Sure every day brings more reminders of the impacts of climate change, but I still love this brilliant conversation starter as a literal centerpiece. Thank you!
This is a wonderful product - beautifully made with attention to detail, and a great idea. Why aren't more people doing this?? thanks for the great work that you are doing!
