This beautiful, handwoven, Ethiopian cotton table runner is a visual representation of climate change over the past 200 years. The coldest temperatures are shown in blue, while the hottest temperatures are shown in red. They communicate trends of changing temperatures- with the darkest blue and the darkest red representing temperature extremes. We have put tabs showing the dates in history on the back of the runner.

The global climate warming stripes are the creation of two climate scientists from the University of Reading, Ellie Highwood and Edward Hawkins and they represent the average rise in temperature for a single year between 1850 to 2020

We hope this runner initiates conversations about the rising temperature of our planet.

Behind the Weave: How it's Made?

What makes Sabahar kitchen and dining products different?

Most conventional table linens are made with synthetic blends or industrially processed cotton. We use locally grown Ethiopian cotton and silk to craft textiles that are 100% natural, biodegradable, and safe for your home and the planet.

How are they made?

Every step from dyeing to spinning to weaving is done entirely by hand. Each piece is woven using traditional Ethiopian techniques. Some products are made with hand-spun cotton, others with recycled yarn or fabric remnants.

Who makes them?

Sabahar is a fair trade, women-owned business that has been operating for over 20 years. We provide fair wages, safe working conditions, and long-term employment to over 100 artisans in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

What truly sets them apart?

Sabahar kitchen and dining pieces are made exclusively with natural fibres, including hand-spun cotton and Ethiopian silk. This rare, time-intensive process gives each napkin, placemat, or runner its distinctive texture, softness, and durability. Whether used daily or saved for special gatherings, these pieces are woven to last.

Why does it matter?

By choosing Sabahar, you're investing in a product that supports livelihoods, preserves craft heritage, and reduces environmental harm - a small choice that makes a real difference.
